Boring rainy day brings Predators and Aliens to play

So as many of you have guessed I had a boring morning since I skipped fitness (slept too long) did not feel like learning for my university exams (only 8 left) I turned on my dads trusty old PHAT PS3 (my slim one has a dead blu ray drive) and played one of the few things I haven`t finished on it yet.

Drumrool -- Alien vs Predator (tested the PC and PS3 versions)

So most of you computergeeks know about the old PC one (the GOOD one) So this NEW (technically one year minus one week old) game is from THE SAME DEVELOPER as the old PC title!! Rebellion is a UK based game developer and comic/book publisher. So lets get to the nice bits .... Its LIKE the first game wich was realy good ... Back in 1998!!! (I do have the original box of the old PC game lying around here) But by todays standards its kind of an akward thing becuse games have evolved. So basic gameplay is ok the story si kinda cool becouse it packs the whole revisiting old locations in with gameplay of the other species  (So it is not repetitive) its just that the game fetures lots of Melee combat in the Alien and Predator Campaigns and THAT IS THE GAMES BIGGEST WEAKNESS!!! Sure the sudden death animations are nice and the humans do look scared when u rip them apart but the game due to its clunky combat sometimes feels incredibly frustrating Especialy the predator boos fight is realy anoying on Nightmare difficulty so I dont recomend it unless u get good at it!!

The presentation of the game is just avarege and the animations just arent really good (accept the instant stealth or grab kills now those are superb) Texture resolution is by all means realy poor (even the DX11pc version) and the whole level design seems too taylored to one species and then used over again. Sound is another matter becuse the sorround in this game has some of the most compressed audio I ever heard and even the PS3 version (those ussualy have the best audio quality) sounds realy poor although the samples might be of bad quality becuse of age (the alien movies are quite old now).

Controls of the PS3 version are very slow becouse of the realy bad performance. I think the avarege framerate is in the low 20s and that is incredibly anoying since it means that your reaction time is just awfull!!
PC version on the other had is not hardware intensive at all Looks about 3 times better (on my modest 3ghz dual core + GF 460) and runs at about 60-100fps so the gameplay experience is A LOT BETTER on PC!!!
It also features tesselation so u can check it if u have a DX11 GPU (Nvidia gf 400+ and ATI Radeon 5000+)

So all in all a nice attempt for Rebellion as their track record is abysmall. The game has some charm and the multiplayer is THE BEST PART OF IT. The only problem is that YOU BARELY FIND ANYONE ONLINE!!!
I could tell you go out and buy it but its not worth more that 20 Euros (I paid that much) and for that price its a really nice game!!
My final verdict is 6.3 out of 10 (make it a 7.3 if you are a AvP fan or palyed the old games)
So rainy day well spent and hope too see u guys online
(In starcraft 2 that is .. Matej.Raynor greats all of you hehe)
